Good transfers need a repeatable application process. Before starting the next stack of shirts, confirm four things: which transfer you have, which garment you are pressing, the settings for that combination, and how you will check the first piece.

The settings below apply to DTF Experts transfers. Transfers from other suppliers may require a different process. Always check the instructions supplied with your order and confirm that the garment can tolerate the application.

Premium DTF settings at a glance

DTF Experts Premium DTF application reference
Garment Temperature First press Pressure Peel Second press
Cotton 285–300°F 10 seconds Medium Hot or cold 5 seconds
Polyester 275°F 10 seconds Medium Hot or cold 5 seconds

Use the same selected temperature and medium pressure for the second press. Heat presses vary in actual temperature and pressure, so test your garment before production.

Apply Premium DTF in five steps

  1. Confirm the garment and transfer. Check the garment's decoration guidance and verify that the transfer is Premium DTF. Do not apply its instructions to Strong Bond.
  2. Prepare a flat pressing area. Position the garment so seams, pockets, and other raised construction do not interfere with the print area. Check alignment before closing the press.
  3. Press for 10 seconds. Use 285–300°F for cotton or 275°F for polyester, with medium pressure.
  4. Peel hot or cold. Premium DTF supports either method. Use a consistent approach for your tested production setup.
  5. Press again for 5 seconds. Complete the second press at the same selected temperature with medium pressure, then inspect the finished print.

For blends, coated fabrics, and unfamiliar garments, do not choose settings solely from the dominant fiber percentage. Consider the garment manufacturer's guidance and test the actual item.

What does medium pressure mean?

Medium pressure is a machine-dependent setting, not a universal number of turns on the adjustment knob. Garment thickness, platen setup, and press design all affect the pressure at the print area.

Use your press manufacturer's guidance to establish an appropriate setting and check for even contact. Record the successful setup so another operator can repeat it. Reassess pressure when switching from a thin T-shirt to a heavier garment.

Strong Bond uses a different application sequence

For Strong Bond DTF Transfers, the starting settings are:

  • Temperature: 290°F.
  • First press: 15 seconds.
  • Pressure: Medium.
  • Peel: Cold only—let the transfer cool completely.
  • Second press: 5 seconds.

Strong Bond is a specialty adhesive option for selected coated workwear and water-resistant garments. It does not guarantee adhesion on every finish. Test the exact garment for appearance, adhesion, and wash performance before production. Do not use Premium DTF's hot-peel option with Strong Bond.

If the first piece does not look right, pause

Before changing settings, confirm the transfer type, timer, selected temperature, peel method, and pressing surface. Check whether raised garment construction is preventing even contact.

If edges lift, do not respond by increasing every setting at once. If the garment shows shine, discoloration, or visible pressure marks, stop and reassess its suitability and your setup. More heat and pressure can introduce additional problems.

For polyester, inspect for unwanted color changes as well as adhesion. A transfer bonding successfully does not by itself establish that every dyed or finished fabric will produce an acceptable result.

If you need help, contact us with the transfer type, garment style and fabric, press model, settings, peel method, and clear photos. Those details are more useful than “it did not stick.”

Make the first good result repeatable

Keep a short production record: garment style and color, transfer type, press, temperature, time, pressure setting, peel method, and test outcome. Inspect the first piece and confirm wash durability before committing to an unfamiliar application.

At DTF Experts, we use thousands of our own transfers daily in contract decoration. Consistent application matters just as much as vibrant printing.
